Is there a GPA requirement?
Most chapters do have a GPA requirement that may range from a 2.5-2.8. For more specifics on GPA requirements feel free to reach out to the chapter.
Can a first year student join?
Yes first year students are able to join! This is a great way to find your community here at BSU. However, you are able to go through recruitment at anytime of your undergraduate career.
* Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. does require you to have at least one completed semester before going through the joining process.
What is the time commitment?
Each organization has chapter meetings once a week and then will have various additional events throughout the semester like sisterhood & brotherhood events and philanthropy/service events. Some organization require service and study hours as well. Many members of our FSL community hold on campus and off campus jobs while also being a part of other organizations or sports teams at BSU as well. Being in any student organization will be a time commitment; however, our FSL community understands that many of our members have multiple other commitment as well!
What is the cost?
Most FSL (Fraternity and Sorority Life) organizations require a membership fee, which typically ranges from $50 to $600 a semester, depending on the organization. These costs should be clearly explained during the recruitment period. The first semester is usually the most expensive due to new member fees, but costs generally decrease in subsequent semesters.
What are some things dues may go towards?

I want to join but I am nervous about the financial commitment:

Can a commuter join?
Absolutely! Our FSL community has a mix of both resident students and commuter students. Joining a Fraternity or Sorority is a great way to find your community on campus.
Are there houses on campus?
We do not have Fraternity or Sorority houses; however, sometimes people meet roommates through being a part of the FSL community! We do have a Fraternity and Sorority Life lounge located in RSU 111D where members are able to study, hang out or relax between classes.
What is the recruitment process like?
Although recruitment looks slightly different for each council, overall recruitment consists of attending different events to meet chapter members and learn more about the organizations to see what would be the best fit for you!

What is the new member process like?
While each new member process varies, no new member process is more than 8 weeks long. The new member process consists of learning about the organizations history, values and service initiatives before becoming a full member.
