Our goal is to celebrate the impact of both individuals and groups on our community in a variety of ways.

Impact Awards Slideshow

The Center for Student Engagement is hoping to celebrate impact of all kinds at this year's award ceremony! Please use this submission form for your information to be considered for this year's slideshow.

Please note, submission to the slideshow is not the same as submitting a nomination for an award. You can see information on how to submit a nomination below.

The deadline for submissions for the slideshow is Friday April 12th.

Examples of potential entries could include:

  • Names and/or photos of this year's officers of your student club or organization
  • Names and/or photos of graduating members of your student club or organization
  • Programs or activities you participated in this year
  • Names and/or photos of individuals who have impacted you this year at BSU

Impact Awards Selection Committee

The Center for Student Engagement is seeking a diverse group of individuals across the University to help select this year's award recipients! If you are interested, please submit this form to participate.

Our goal is to form all selection committees by March 1st.

 

Impact Award Nomination Information

We hope all members of our community will consider nominating themselves and/or others for one or more of this year's Impact Awards!

Nominations will open online on Wednesday January 17th (the first day of classes for spring 2024), and close at 12pm on Friday March 29th.

Please note, all nominations are considered by a cross-divisional selection committee and nominees will be notified via their BSU email by early April.

Awards for Individuals

  • Advisor of Year

    This award is presented to the club/organization advisor who has gone above and beyond the requirements of the advisor position. Recipients of this award must be either Volunteer Organization Advisors or Staff Organization Advisors for recognized student organizations.

  • Bridgewater's Best - Graduating Senior Recognition

    The Award for Bridgewater's Best honors students for their outstanding impact on the BSU community. This award recognizes graduating seniors whose experiences demonstrate a significant, long-term record of service through leadership in campus organizations, community service or other impactful leadership during their BSU career. Recipients are considered among the most spirited of BSU Bears, have made a significant impact on co-curricular life and who utilize a leadership style that is an example for others to follow and exemplifies the values of BSU.

  • S. Elizabeth Pope Award - Senior Recognition

    Each year the S. Elizabeth Pope Award is presented "...to that senior woman elected by the women in her class who has given of herself most generously in service to this College and in the promotion of good fellowship among her classmates."

    Nominations are welcome from all members of the BSU Community. The recipient will be selected through an election open to all senior women in early April.

  • The Impact Award for Student Leadership

    The Impact Award for Student Leadership is presented to individuals who have made a significant impact on their community, peers, members, programs and/or others around them.

    Individuals will be honored for their work serving the broader community and/or as campus leaders. Nominations will be reviewed based on the following:

    • Significant positive impact on co-curricular life and/or community service during the past academic year, including a positive change to the community served.
    • Serves as a strong role model for their classmates based on accomplishments in leadership and service, on and/or off campus
    • Exhibits enthusiasm and BSU school pride
    • Significant, long-term commitment to a service project or initiative
    • Demonstrates potential for success in future service and leadership roles at BSU and beyond
  • Unsung Hero Award

    This award is presented to one student and one faculty/administrator/staff member who has assisted in the development of leadership and service opportunities for students within any area of the University beyond the call of duty. This individual should demonstrate achievement in the following areas:

    • consistently surpasses expectations of membership, position and role to assist students or student organizations in successful pursuit of organizational and individual success,
    • serves the campus and community with a service-oriented philosophy, and
    • accepts new tasks and challenges with enthusiasm and a positive attitude
  • Rookie of the Year Award

    This award is given to up to two students who are in their first two years at Bridgewater State University and have demonstrated promising leadership in the community. They have shown their potential to make positive changes and/or impact through involvement in student organizations, community service, and/or other areas of the University, and we look forward to watching them grow in their remaining time at BSU!

  • Bridgewater Alumni Association: Future Alumni Leader Award - For Seniors

    This award is based on the premise that strong student leaders become strong alumni leaders. Bridgewater Alumni Association - Future Alumni Leader Award recognizes an outstanding Bridgewater State University senior who has demonstrated commitment to forging an ongoing connection with the university community for students and alumni through BSU community involvement and lives the motto : "Not to be Ministered Unto but to Minister"

    Criteria:

    • A strong affinity for and connection to Bridgewater State University as evidenced by involvement with campus organizations
    • Evidence of enhancing the Bridgewater State Community through their involvement Demonstrates positive attitude, enthusiasm, love and commitment to BSU
    • Demonstrates positive attitude, enthusiasm, love and commitment to BSU
    • Is most likely to stay involved as an Aluma/us after graduating from BSU
  • You've Got BSU Spirit Award

    This award is given to up to any two BSU students who are extraordinary examples of BSU school spirit. From how they wear the bear, to how they support their fellow classmates, their commitment to the mission and values of the University makes them stand out from the crowd.

  • Frederick Clark and Carrie Kulick Clark & Dean David and Judy Deep Student Leadership Scholarships

    The Frederick Clark and Carrie Kulick-Clark & Dean David and Judy Deep Student Leadership Scholarships are awarded to four students (could include undergraduate and/or graduate students), in the amount of $500/each, for their leadership contributions that have increased in depth and breadth as well as aided in transforming student life at Bridgewater State University during the academic year. Most importantly, this award recognizes excellence in those who embody the ideals of true leadership. Please note, as of 2024, these awards will be selected through the traditional BSU Scholarship selection process. Awards for Groups/Organizations

  • Student Organization Program of the Year Award

    The Student Organization Program of the Year Award is presented to the organization that has organized an outstanding program during the academic year that has enhanced the quality of life at Bridgewater State University and in the surrounding community.

    Programs are rated based on how the following criteria are fulfilled. Not all must be met, but stronger consideration is given for programs that meet multiple criteria:

    • shows the organization's dedication to service,
    • proves to support the development of its members,
    • displays a strong sense of school pride and spirit, and
    • the program serves the campus community and/or our local community (may include involvement of a not-for-profit or charitable organization where appropriate).

    We define "program" as a single occurrence event or a series of events, trainings and other student planned activities. New ideas and first time programs will be given special consideration.

  • Outstanding Student Organization

    The Award for Outstanding Student Organization is presented to student organizations who have made a significant impact on their community, peers, members, programs, and/or others around them.

    They meet one or more of the following criteria:

    • Significant positive impact on co-curricular life and/or community service during the past academic year
    • Serves as a strong role model for other organizations or groups based on accomplishments in leadership and service, on and/or off campus
    • Significant, long-term commitment to a service project or initiative
    • Upholds and exemplifies BSU's values and our community priorities of racial and social justice.
    • Exhibits enthusiasm and school pride in Bridgewater State University
  • The David P. Deep Vice-President's Award for Organization of the Year

    The David P. Deep Vice President for Student Affairs Award is presented to the organization of the year that has enhanced the quality of life at Bridgewater State University and in the surrounding community. The award is given in honor of David P. Deep, Vice President emeritus for Student Affairs.

    Submissions will be rated based on how well the information provided demonstrates how the organization has fulfilled the following criteria during this academic year:

    • have an impact on the community through programs and/or service,
    • actively create opportunities that improve campus life at BSU (include sponsorship of campus events and collaboration with other organizations and campus departments),
    • Upholds and exemplifies BSU's values and our community priorities of racial and social justice.
    • facilitates development of leadership skills for members, and
    • respect by others as a model organization.

    Award finalists may be asked to speak with the Selection Committee to review application and answer additional questions about your nomination.
