Mission
WBIM is Bridgewater State University's radio station. Our goal is to expose the university and surrounding community to a wide variety of musical genres while providing skills and experience to our all-student DJ staff. The staff at WBIM work together to create a series of regularly-scheduled programs each week, wherein each DJ is encouraged to explore new styles and add their own personality to their shows. Additionally, WBIM members have the opportunity to provide sound technician services for various BSU departments and student organizations at on-campus events.

Academic Advisors in the Academic Achievement Center welcome and support students through relationship building and effective two-way communication. We connect students to resources, encourage engagement, and assist in navigating the BSU experience. We mentor students to take ownership of their education through planning, problem solving, and self-advocacy. AAC advisors build the foundation for achievement and help create life-long learners.

The AAC supported programs include the Haughey First Year Advising Program, including Introduction to Advising and Registration Basics, and the Ascend Program. The AAC Academic Advisors also assist all degree-seeking students still exploring their major.

Active Minds at Bridgewater State University is a student-run organization that promotes mental health awareness. We are determined to spread information about mental health, all while changing the negative stigma surrounding mental illness. It is a place where people can come and share their stories and realize that they are not alone in their struggles. Active Minds will host events throughout the year to raise money for a variety of organizations that support mental health awareness, mental illnesses, and support groups for mental health.

Students will become educated on different types of mental illness and how to support those who struggle with mental health through events, social media, and letters to members. Bipartisan Disagreement is about pushing each of us to admit that because we are all fallible, there is value in learning about each other in good faith. Bipartisan Disagreement was founded in 2020 at Northeastern University out of frustration with the state of public discourse. It seemed that any conversation between politically diverse peers was liable to collapse under the weight of polarization. Today, this same issue remains. That is why Bipartisan Disagreement aims to promote respect, tolerance, and understanding in everyday discussions about the world and our roles as global citizens.

Whether it's debating American involvement in the Ukraine war or if pineapple belongs on pizza, we want to create a space where students can listen and learn from one another. With differences becoming increasingly divisive, our school could benefit by helping students communicate productively with their peers about their experiences, instead of dismissing them through the lens of a partisan narrative. These person-to-person interactions are essential to Bipartisan Disagreement, and educational institutions like ours can offer a unique opportunity to promote those relationships and to reintroduce ideals of civic virtue to our country’s future leaders. In the process, we can bridge the partisan divide and hopefully improve education, respect, and tolerance amongst the general population over time.

This is why we would really like to bring the message of Bipartisan Disagreement to BSU and beyond.

The Bridgewater Collegiate Investors have three core purposes: knowledge, real-world experience, and networking with fellow students and finance professionals. It was created for Bridgewater State Students with a passion for finance and investing to master concepts such as economics, security analysis, and portfolio management. The group will meet weekly to discuss various topics such as market and sector trends, investment opportunities, and global financial news.

Group members will be a wealth of knowledge by adding value to each meeting with one of the following: technical investment strategy, a term of the day or excerpt from educational literature. Members of the Bridgewater Collegiate Investors will also be given the opportunity to participate in events such as guest speakers and trips to financial institutions with the purpose of gaining real-world exposure as well as networking opportunities. Members of the Bridgewater Collegiate Investors must be highly motivated, willing to learn and have a passion for the world of finance. The group of students will work together to maintain several stock portfolios on simulated real-time markets on Investopedia.com. This will be the primary focus of the organization, all students will work together and collaboratively develop investment strategies and exploit market opportunities. The group is encouraged to work closely together in the decision making process.

What drives the group to success is pushing one another to go the extra step and complete stock analysis before securing a market position. Students must be critical of one another to ensure professionalism is optimized. Students are also encouraged to maintain their own stock portfolios and share with the group different techniques they used and what result it has produced.

Our mission in the Financial Aid Office is to assist you and your family in affording the cost of your college education. The Bridgewater State University Police Department is charged with the protection of the lives and property of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as well as the streets and other passageways adjoining University property. BSUPD staff work with community members to prevent crime, solve problems, and take proactive steps to make BSU as safe as possible.

BSUPD is widely recognized as the premier state university police department in Massachusetts. All BSU police officers attend municipal police academy training and have full police authority on university property and throughout the town of Bridgewater. The department enforces state laws, including motor vehicle laws, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and law enforcement tools, enabling us to respond to virtually any incident or emergency.

Officers have been trained in crime prevention, sexual assault investigations, bicycle patrol, drug recognition, crisis negotiation and more. Many officers are certified as EMTs, and all are certified in CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) and first aid. BSUPD has established a public access defibrillation and Narcan program, providing AEDs and Narcan across campus and offering free training and certifications courses for each.

The department delivers several educational programs to the community, including those in crime prevention, personal safety, civilian response to active shooter events, and Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) self-defense.

Since 2012, BSU has been awarded over $185,000 by the Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium (MASGC) to support undergraduate research that meets the goals of NASA. BSU has multiple ways for you to take part through semester and summer grants as well as paid opportunities to work in the Photonics Labs (PHOTeam) and support research at the BSU Observatory (BEAR Team).

This is not a counseling or therapy service; but rather an outreach service for students experiencing unexpected setbacks in their university experience. For more than 45 years, Bridgewater State University has sponsored the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic (CPDC), a nationally recognized academic program that fosters professional development, service learning, and leadership development. The CPDC affords students from all majors a challenging opportunity to volunteer as clinicians and work with children and youth with disabilities, ages 18 months to 18 years.

The aim of the clinic program is to improve the "total development" of children with disabilities by enhancing vital physical, motor and aquatic skills and patterns. In addition, the program stresses the improvement of children's self-esteem by strengthening emotional-social aspects of their personalities through successful involvement in play, recreation and sport activities.

Over 100 students serve as clinicians and group leaders each semester, making the CPDC the largest student organization on campus. Over the years, BSU students have determined that the CPDC not only augments their professional preparation; but, upon graduation, is most critical to them when seeking employment and entrance to graduate school.

CPDC continues to assist individuals with disabilities to live more independent and productive lives, and prepares young professionals for teaching and allied health careers, as well as community service and leadership roles throughout New England.

The Christian Fellowship (CF) sends warm greetings to everyone at Bridgewater State University. CF is a student-led organization on campus that centers its values on spreading the Good News—the Gospel—to all, as Jesus Christ has commissioned us.

Community Health & Prevention (CHP) is a department of the BSU Wellness Center that includes Civic Wellness & Bienestar Cultural/ Bem Estar Cultural/ Bien-etre Culturel/ Cultural Wellness, the Alcohol and Drug Program (ADP), and the Sexual Violence Advocacy and Support (SVAS) Center. We hire diverse students as peer educators to promote equity, flourishing, and well-being for all campus communities. Our resources include:

* Civic and cultural wellness/ bienestar cultural/ bem estar cultural/ bien-etre culturel: Know Your Rights cards and education; Know Who Represents You and How to Take Action; Annual Health Equity Fair, and joint programming with campus and student groups honoring that culture is health.

* Sexual wellness and healthy relationships: Workshops and resources for sexual health and well-being, consent, boundaries, how to support someone who has experienced relationship or sexual harm, and active bystander trainings.

Confidential advocacy services for survivors of sexual assault and/or intimate partner violence- professional support in the aftermath of an incident to help you understand the options, accompany you, and connect you to services.

The BSU Dance Team is a club sports team that not only shows spirit on campus by dancing at games and other events but also competes at the national level in Florida in April.
We offer spots on our competition and performance team. This allows members to dance at on-campus events and/or compete in the DIII pom and jazz categories at The DTU College Classic.

Dance Company one of the largest dance organizations on the BSU campus, and the only dance Organization on campus where there are no cuts based on ability. In the fall semester we offer combo classes Friday nights, where a new dance is taught each week by a new choreographer for fun. In the Spring semester we produce "Pops!". "Pops!" allows dancers with various backgrounds and experience levels to perform in student choreographed pieces. Auditions are held on a first-come-first-serve basis until the cap of the show is met. "Pops!" premieres in April.

Bridgewater State University's Counselor Education program prepare professionals to counsel individuals, families, groups and communities with developmental, educational, career and mental health needs. Using a constructivism framework, faculty build on students' prior knowledge, background and experience.

The Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP), a specialized accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), has granted accreditation to the following programs in the Department of Counselor Education at Bridgewater State University: Mental Health Counseling (M.Ed.). and School Counseling (M.Ed.). The Department of Counselor Education at Bridgewater State University has made history by being the first counseling program in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to achieve this national CACREP accreditation.

The Department of Criminal Justice at Bridgewater State University uses a social justice framework to examine criminal and delinquent behavior, criminalization, and society’s response to crime. Our department is led by faculty who are well-established in their field and known for their teaching, scholarship, and community engagement. Our curriculum is grounded in an interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach to understanding crime and criminal justice that is rooted in firm commitments to social justice and methodologically rigorous research. Students are introduced to a variety of theoretical perspectives and competing viewpoints throughout the curriculum and are equipped with the analytical and research tools necessary for understanding and exploring issues in crime and justice.

BSU Criminal Justice courses are designed to provide students with a critical awareness of how social, political and historical forces have influenced the law as well as criminal justice institutions and practices. Faculty members provide students with a thorough understanding of the various political, legal, cultural, social, economic and technological systems that converge around crime and rehabilitation. Students analyze how the criminal justice system has shaped crime and society, with attention to historical and contemporary inequities, and are encouraged to consider the wider implications of crime.

They examine the ways in which our society can more effectively serve communities affected by crime and punishment, including through restorative and transformative justice practices and non-punitive efforts to strengthen communities. The critical examination of institutional responses to crime entails an engagement with contemporary criminal justice issues, political debates, social conflicts, ethical concerns and emerging research. The program is designed to provide students with excellent preparation for further study in graduate or law schools, for careers in criminal justice, and for meaningful engagement with the world as critically informed citizens. ​​​​​​​

As BSU Club Gymnastics, our mission is to introduce the sport of gymnastics to any BSU Bear who is interested in the sport. We want to show every person that it is never to late to start gymnastics. Anyone can join this club team, no matter their gender, ability level, or experience. We believe that anyone who wishes to learn gymnastics can start at any age, and we are ready to cheer every one of our teammates on. Club Gymnastics offers competitions against other college and adult teams for those who are interested, but this is not mandatory if you would rather just come to practice with us for fun. We also encourage anyone with an acrobatic background if they want a place to practice their acrobatic moves, learn new acrobatic skills, find workout partners in our club or simply make friends they are welcome to join. Whatever your reason for joining us, we just want to spread our leagues, NAIGC, vision of "For the Love of the Sport".

The Interfraternity Council, known as IFC, is comprised of five international men's fraternities and one Co-educational fraternity. The IFC Executive Board consists of six officers representative of the general population. The recruitment process for all male and co-ed fraternities is organized by the IFC. The IFC also programs activities and philanthropic events for all of the fraternities. The IFC is the governing board of all member fraternities. It is driven by its constitution and by-laws and has the best interests of its fraternal and collegiate communities.

If you're interested in joining the Fraternity & Sorority Life community, please know that you need at least a 2.5 GPA and have completed at least 12 college credits.

The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and promotion of high-quality education in the art of dance. NDEO provides the dance artist, educator, and administrator a network of resources and support, a base for advocacy, and access to programs that focus on the importance of dance in the human experience. Student Chapters (NSO) are local associations of college-aged students that align their mission and activities with NDEO's mission to advance dance education centered in the arts. NSOs are comprised of students interested in dance and dance education at degree-awarding institutions or professional dance education programs that are Institutional Members of NDEO to provide opportunities for students aspiring to create a career in dance or dance education. It provides research opportunities, the ability to go to the national conference, and to build leadership within each student.

"To inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood" as stated on our Phi Sigma Sigma Website. The Epsilon Iota chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma was established at Bridgewater State College in 1989. The sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma strongly believe in fostering the ideal of womanhood through sisterhood, scholarship, and service. As an international organization, we believe in high scholastic achievement as well as philanthropic work. Not only do our sisters become leaders in our organization, but they become leaders in their community and professions as well. For all these reasons, our open motto is "Aim High," pushing all our sisters to strive to their best achievement. As a sisterhood, philanthropy is very important to us. Every year, Phi Sigma Sigma raises money for our national philanthropy, The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, which in turn supports the Kids in Need Foundation. Here at BSU, we raise money annually for The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation through hosting a "School Readiness" week in the fall and our Phi Sig Feud event in the spring. Also, for over ten years our sisters have been volunteering their Saturday mornings to assist with the Children's Physical Development Clinic (CPDC) on campus. Sisters have also been volunteering their Saturday and/or Sunday mornings to assist with the Angels Anonymous Food Pantry in Fall River throughout the entire academic year. During the fall, we raise money and travel to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, and in the spring we, along with many of the other Greek organizations, participate in Relay For Life on campus. We are also proud to host Walk A Mile in Her Shoes each spring, an international march to bring awareness to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence which was brought to campus by one of our own sisters a few years ago. Finally, as a chapter, we find it important to support the organizations closest to our sisters, so our philanthropy chair makes every effort to incorporate other opportunities for community service that our sisters bring forth. In addition to philanthropies, we also keep the bond of our sisterhood strong by organizing various social events throughout the school year. Each year we get together for events such as a semi formal Crush Party, our Blue and Gold Gala to support our Philanthropy week, and our Sapphire Ball. These events help sisters to continue their strong bond during their college experience as well as after graduation. Our saying always holds true: "Once a Phi Sigma Sigma…Always a Phi Sigma Sigma!"
