Mission
WBIM is Bridgewater State University's radio station. Our goal is to expose the university and surrounding community to a wide variety of musical genres while providing skills and experience to our all-student DJ staff. The staff at WBIM work together to create a series of regularly-scheduled programs each week, wherein each DJ is encouraged to explore new styles and add their own personality to their shows. Additionally, WBIM members have the opportunity to provide sound technician services for various BSU departments and student organizations at on-campus events.

We connect students to resources, encourage engagement, and assist in navigating the BSU experience. We mentor students to take ownership of their education through planning, problem solving, and self-advocacy. AAC advisors build the foundation for achievement and help create life-long learners.

The AAC supported programs include the Haughey First Year Advising Program, including Introduction to Advising and Registration Basics, and the Ascend Program. The AAC Academic Advisors also assist all degree-seeking students still exploring their major.

Active Minds at Bridgewater State University is a student-run organization that promotes mental health awareness. We are determined to spread information about mental health, all while changing the negative stigma surrounding mental illness. It is a place where people can come and share their stories and realize that they are not alone in their struggles. Active Minds will host events throughout the year to raise money for a variety of organizations that support mental health awareness, mental illnesses, and support groups for mental health.

Bipartisan Disagreement is about pushing each of us to admit that because we are all fallible, there is value in learning about each other in good faith. Bipartisan Disagreement was founded in 2020 at Northeastern University out of frustration with the state of public discourse. It seemed that any conversation between politically diverse peers was liable to collapse under the weight of polarization. Today, this same issue remains. That is why Bipartisan Disagreement aims to promote respect, tolerance, and understanding in everyday discussions about the world and our roles as global citizens.

Whether it's debating American involvement in the Ukraine war or if pineapple belongs on pizza, we want to create a space where students can listen and learn from one another. With differences becoming increasingly divisive, our school could benefit by helping students communicate productively with their peers about their experiences, instead of dismissing them through the lens of a partisan narrative. These person-to-person interactions are essential to Bipartisan Disagreement, and educational institutions like ours can offer a unique opportunity to promote those relationships and to reintroduce ideals of civic virtue to our country’s future leaders. In the process, we can bridge the partisan divide and hopefully improve education, respect, and tolerance amongst the general population over time.

The Bridgewater Collegiate Investors have three core purposes: knowledge, real-world experience, and networking with fellow students and finance professionals. It was created for Bridgewater State Students with a passion for finance and investing to master concepts such as economics, security analysis, and portfolio management. The group will meet weekly to discuss various topics such as market and sector trends, investment opportunities, and global financial news.

Group members will be a wealth of knowledge by adding value to each meeting with one of the following: technical investment strategy, a term of the day or excerpt from educational literature. Members of the Bridgewater Collegiate Investors will also be given the opportunity to participate in events such as guest speakers and trips to financial institutions with the purpose of gaining real-world exposure as well as networking opportunities. Members of the Bridgewater Collegiate Investors must be highly motivated, willing to learn and have a passion for the world of finance. The group of students will work together to maintain several stock portfolios on simulated real-time markets on Investopedia.com. This will be the primary focus of the organization, all students will work together and collaboratively develop investment strategies and exploit market opportunities. The group is encouraged to work closely together in the decision making process.

What drives the group to success is pushing one another to go the extra step and complete stock analysis before securing a market position. Students must be critical of one another to ensure professionalism is optimized. Students are also encouraged to maintain their own stock portfolios and share with the group different techniques they used and what result it has produced.

The Bridgewater State University Police Department is charged with the protection of the lives and property of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as well as the streets and other passageways adjoining University property. BSUPD staff work with community members to prevent crime, solve problems, and take proactive steps to make BSU as safe as possible.

BSUPD is widely recognized as the premier state university police department in Massachusetts. All BSU police officers attend municipal police academy training and have full police authority on university property and throughout the town of Bridgewater. The department enforces state laws, including motor vehicle laws, and is equipped with state-of-the-art technology and law enforcement tools, enabling us to respond to virtually any incident or emergency.

Officers have been trained in crime prevention, sexual assault investigations, bicycle patrol, drug recognition, crisis negotiation and more. Many officers are certified as EMTs, and all are certified in CPR, AED (automated external defibrillator) and first aid. BSUPD has established a public access defibrillation and Narcan program, providing AEDs and Narcan across campus and offering free training and certifications courses for each.

The department delivers several educational programs to the community, including those in crime prevention, personal safety, civilian response to active shooter events, and Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) self-defense.

Since 2012, BSU has been awarded over $185,000 by the Massachusetts Space Grant Consortium (MASGC) to support undergraduate research that meets the goals of NASA. BSU has multiple ways for you to take part through semester and summer grants as well as paid opportunities to work in the Photonics Labs (PHOTeam) and support research at the BSU Observatory (BEAR Team).

For more than 45 years, Bridgewater State University has sponsored the Children's Physical Developmental Clinic (CPDC), a nationally recognized academic program that fosters professional development, service learning, and leadership development. The CPDC affords students from all majors a challenging opportunity to volunteer as clinicians and work with children and youth with disabilities, ages 18 months to 18 years.

The aim of the clinic program is to improve the "total development" of children with disabilities by enhancing vital physical, motor and aquatic skills and patterns. In addition, the program stresses the improvement of children's self-esteem by strengthening emotional-social aspects of their personalities through successful involvement in play, recreation and sport activities.

Over 100 students serve as clinicians and group leaders each semester, making the CPDC the largest student organization on campus. Over the years, BSU students have determined that the CPDC not only augments their professional preparation; but, upon graduation, is most critical to them when seeking employment and entrance to graduate school.

Dance Company one of the largest dance organizations on the BSU campus, and the only dance Organization on campus where there are no cuts based on ability. In the fall semester we offer combo classes Friday nights, where a new dance is taught each week by a new choreographer for fun. In the Spring semester we produce "Pops!". "Pops!" allows dancers with various backgrounds and experience levels to perform in student choreographed pieces. Auditions are held on a first-come-first-serve basis until the cap of the show is met. "Pops!" premieres in April.

The Department of Criminal Justice at Bridgewater State University uses a social justice framework to examine criminal and delinquent behavior, criminalization, and society’s response to crime. Our department is led by faculty who are well-established in their field and known for their teaching, scholarship, and community engagement. Our curriculum is grounded in an interdisciplinary, liberal arts approach to understanding crime and criminal justice that is rooted in firm commitments to social justice and methodologically rigorous research. Students are introduced to a variety of theoretical perspectives and competing viewpoints throughout the curriculum and are equipped with the analytical and research tools necessary for understanding and exploring issues in crime and justice.

BSU Criminal Justice courses are designed to provide students with a critical awareness of how social, political and historical forces have influenced the law as well as criminal justice institutions and practices. Faculty members provide students with a thorough understanding of the various political, legal, cultural, social, economic and technological systems that converge around crime and rehabilitation. Students analyze how the criminal justice system has shaped crime and society, with attention to historical and contemporary inequities, and are encouraged to consider the wider implications of crime.

They examine the ways in which our society can more effectively serve communities affected by crime and punishment, including through restorative and transformative justice practices and non-punitive efforts to strengthen communities. The critical examination of institutional responses to crime entails an engagement with contemporary criminal justice issues, political debates, social conflicts, ethical concerns and emerging research. The Interfraternity Council, known as IFC, is comprised of five international men's fraternities and one Co-educational fraternity. The IFC Executive Board consists of six officers representative of the general population. The recruitment process for all male and co-ed fraternities is organized by the IFC. The National Dance Education Organization (NDEO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement and promotion of high-quality education in the art of dance. NDEO provides the dance artist, educator, and administrator a network of resources and support, a base for advocacy, and access to programs that focus on the importance of dance in the human experience. Student Chapters (NSO) are local associations of college-aged students that align their mission and activities with NDEO's mission to advance dance education centered in the arts. NSOs are comprised of students interested in dance and dance education at degree-awarding institutions or professional dance education programs that are Institutional Members of NDEO to provide opportunities for students aspiring to create a career in dance or dance education. It provides research opportunities, the ability to go to the national conference, and to build leadership within each student.

Phi Kappa Theta is a national social fraternity founded on the ideals we believe shape college-aged male-presenting students into well-rounded gentlemen and model citizens.

Across all 41 Chapters of Phi Kappa Theta across the nation, "Phi Kaps", as they are referred to colloquially, are known for being the next generation of servant leaders and have been at the forefront of social justice and equitable accountability within the Greek Community and every collegiate community that Phi Kaps call home. Our MA Zeta Chapter at Bridgewater State University is no exception.

Phi Kappa Theta is currently the only fraternity in the American Fraternal system that is considered a true "merger" of two separate Greek organizations. This is due to the nature of a Phi Kap being so strongly based on social equity. Nationally, Phi Kappa Theta was established on April 29, 1959, with the merger of Phi Kappa and Theta Kappa Phi. Both organizations were founded by a group of students at Brown and Lehigh University (respectively) who were refused entrance to other fraternities because of their faith. Similarly, the MA Zeta Chapter of Phi Kappa Theta was founded on the Bridgewater State Campus in 2011 when a brother was rejected by a prominent Greek Organization for being Transgender. Although rich in Catholic history, Phi Kappa Theta is open for membership regardless of one's faith.

Phi Kappa Theta works relentlessly to foster the development of one's intrapersonal relationship to the values and ideals we uphold as an organization for each brother. With a history of an overwhelming portion of male-presenting student leaders on the Bridgewater State University Campus hailing from Phi Kappa Theta. Those who reflect our values and regularly interact with "Phi Kaps" can attest to the impact each brother has made within the community during their undergraduate program.

The Massachusetts Zeta Chapter of Phi Kappa Theta constantly emphasizes the importance of reflection and self-evaluation, developing deliberate programming that intentionally factors in one's plans for long-term growth, and promoting healthy communication and relationship building within the brotherhood it serves. Bettering the organization one member at a time.

The key to our success is achieved through two critical aspects. A quality-based mentality regarding the recruitment of those welcomed into the brotherhood creates an experience that seeks to develop each member through the opportunity to personalize their experience to whatever they allow themselves to gain. "To inspire the personal development of each sister and perpetuate the advancement of womanhood" as stated on our Phi Sigma Sigma Website. The Epsilon Iota chapter of Phi Sigma Sigma was established at Bridgewater State College in 1989. The sisters of Phi Sigma Sigma strongly believe in fostering the ideal of womanhood through sisterhood, scholarship, and service. As an international organization, we believe in high scholastic achievement as well as philanthropic work. Not only do our sisters become leaders in our organization, but they become leaders in their community and professions as well. For all these reasons, our open motto is "Aim High," pushing all our sisters to strive to their best achievement. As a sisterhood, philanthropy is very important to us. Every year, Phi Sigma Sigma raises money for our national philanthropy, The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation, which in turn supports the Kids in Need Foundation. Here at BSU, we raise money annually for The Phi Sigma Sigma Foundation through hosting a "School Readiness" week in the fall and our Phi Sig Feud event in the spring. Also, for over ten years our sisters have been volunteering their Saturday mornings to assist with the Children's Physical Development Clinic (CPDC) on campus. Sisters have also been volunteering their Saturday and/or Sunday mornings to assist with the Angels Anonymous Food Pantry in Fall River throughout the entire academic year. During the fall, we raise money and travel to participate in the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk, and in the spring we, along with many of the other Greek organizations, participate in Relay For Life on campus. We are also proud to host Walk A Mile in Her Shoes each spring, an international march to bring awareness to end rape, sexual assault and gender violence which was brought to campus by one of our own sisters a few years ago. Finally, as a chapter, we find it important to support the organizations closest to our sisters, so our philanthropy chair makes every effort to incorporate other opportunities for community service that our sisters bring forth. In addition to philanthropies, we also keep the bond of our sisterhood strong by organizing various social events throughout the school year. Each year we get together for events such as a semi formal Crush Party, our Blue and Gold Gala to support our Philanthropy week, and our Sapphire Ball. These events help sisters to continue their strong bond during their college experience as well as after graduation. Our saying always holds true: "Once a Phi Sigma Sigma…Always a Phi Sigma Sigma!"

The BSU Pre-Health Club aims to prepare and provide students interested in pursuing a career in medicine at BSU with a network of social and educational support along with research, shadowing, and volunteer experience within the medical field. REFINED MOVEMENT DANCE TEAM (RMDT) Refined Movement Dance Team (RMDT) is a SGA funded dance group at Bridgewater State University. We are a diverse student choreographed group best known for our inclusivity of all genres of dance and our mixed experience leveled dancers. We perform jazz, tap, contemporary, hip hop, and many more dance genres. We aim to entertain students with a variety of styles, along with encouraging them to open their minds to the many different forms of dance! We take pride in helping the community, through picking a charity of our choice each semester, and donating partial proceeds from our events and fundraisers. Refined Movements also participates in a multitude of events on campus, which consist of Homecoming, Relay for Life and our own event that we host each semester. University Events supports the University mission and serves as a one-stop operation that follows University priorities to coordinate, support, execute and consult on meetings, events, and programs throughout campus. University Events coordinates the efforts of University support areas on behalf of event sponsors and is responsible for planning institutional and campus-wide events such as Commencement, Convocation and Honor's Week. Striving to offer exceptional customer service, University Events manages and maintains event space and resources while providing event related services including room configuration, technology, and production, audio and lighting support. The staff is committed to supporting student success and development through hands-on experiential learning outside of the classroom.

Women in Aviation was created with the goal to introduce this remarkable career path for students who are curious to learn more. In our chapter you will get the chance to meet prominent individuals in the aviation industry and build a community within Bridgwater State University. Students do not need to major in Aviation Science to join. We are all connected through our shared passion for Aviation and Aerospace. We hope to see you soon!

This club serves to bring together a community of women (and their allies) who aim to uplift each other while developing confidence and literacy within the STEM disciplines, through outreach to the community, advocacy for equality, and mentorship. Women in STEM aims to create access and opportunities, with experiences such as presentations by leading women from various STEM fields, meetings with Career Services which include resume building and interview preparation, outreach to the community through STEM activities, advocacy for equality within academia and the workplace, confidence-building strategies, as well as bringing awareness and open conversation to other important intersectional issues that the STEM community faces.
