Philanthropy & Awareness

Through our partnership with the Huntsman Cancer Institute and other regional charities, our chapters provide more philanthropic dollars than any other Greek-letter organization — more than $4.2 million during the 2019 to 2020 academic year despite issues and cancellations due to COVID-19. Sigma Chi also partners with Alpha Delta Pi Sorority and the Max Gruver Foundation to combat issues of hazing on our campuses.

Huntsman Cancer Foundation

The mission of the Huntsman Cancer Foundation is to find the causes of cancer, to develop new and better
treatments, and to prevent people from ever developing cancer. Through our undergraduate and alumni
chapters, Sigma Chi is excited to be supporting HCF as it strives forward toward this ambitious goal.

Our Pledge

We have completed a seven-year commitment to raise $11 million to fuel the lifesaving work and innovative research at Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI). But as Sigma Chi's we know our work is not done, so we are again making the largest commitment to a philanthropy in men’s fraternity history. In 2019, we announced a $20 million pledge directed to women’s cancers, to honor the women that inspire us every day and who work tirelessly with us in Derby Days to fight this horrible disease. Together, we are The Generation to End Cancer™.

Jon M. Huntsman

Huntsman Cancer Foundation (HCF) has been the preferred philanthropic partner of Sigma Chi since December 2012. HCF was founded by Significant Sig and Order of Constantine Sig Jon Huntsman Sr. He built a legacy on values gained through his family and his experience as a Sigma Chi to make a difference in the world. After losing his mother to breast cancer, Brother Huntsman made it his life goal to eradicate cancer from the planet. The Huntsman family donated $300 million to establish the Huntsman Cancer Institute (HCI) at the University of Utah, and because of the Huntsman family’s generosity, 100% of your donation goes directly to fund the mission of HCI.
