I am delighted and filled with enthusiasm to welcome new and returning students to the Spring 2023 semester at BSU! Our staff welcomes you to our center where you will find the support, encouragement, love, and programs to help you attain success this semester. I am Sharon Pitterson-Ogaldez, new director of Intercultural Student Success and the Lewis and Gaines Center for Inclusion and Equity (LGCIE – pronounced legacy). The center is open to all students at BSU with focused advocacy and support provided for African/Black, Asian, Latino/a/x , Indigenous, and other students of color to succeed at a predominantly white institution (PWI). We provide academic, cultural, and social initiatives to support you in meeting your academic goals and finding a community of students from similar backgrounds.

Programs
• Study Hall: Wednesdays 12-3 pm (with a tutor and academic coach)
• Faculty Office Hours: Tu, W, Tr. (get help with classes, advising, life skills)
• SnakChats: Tuesdays 12:30 – 1:30 pm (eat and learn about campus resources, diversity topics)
• Celebrate and learn about different cultures!
• Kente Cloth Ceremony: Recognition for graduates in May
• Employment /leadership opportunities: Work in the center
• Popcorn Wednesdays: 12- 1 pm (FREE popcorn and conversations in the center)
• Center is open for encouragement, conversations, homework or studying M-F 8:45 am- 5:00 pm
