With Commencement this weekend, excitement is in the air here at BSU! Review the content in this newsletter to view information on upcoming events, important reminders, and more.

Throughout the year, the BSU Family Hub will be sending monthly newsletters in addition to all of the great content you have on your EngageBSU portal. Be sure to log into your account regularly to check out the rotating content designed specifically for family members and supporters of current BSU students.

BSU Checkpoint & New Student Dashboard

Is your student beginning their BSU journey in fall 2024? Are they struggling to figure out their next step in the process of enrolling? Encourage them to check out the new personalized New Student Dashboard! They will need to login to the site with their BSU login creditentials. 
 
By accessing their dashboard, new students will be able to see tasks they have completed, and ones still on their to-do list to complete before starting here in the fall. For a more general overview, you can also visit the New First Year Student or New Transfer Student checklists online.  
 
But what about orientation? Orientation is not just an event at Bridgewater State University — it is an engaging process that begins from the moment a new first year student deposits all the way to the end of their first semester! At BSU this is called the “Crimson Experience.”  It's now time for your new student to register for their next step in their Crimson Experience - BSU Checkpoint!  
 
BSU Checkpoint is a one-day program designed to assist your student in completing their time-sensitive items like placement testing, scheduling a one-on-one advising appointment, and much more! Each student can also invite up to two family members or supporters to attend a Family Checkpoint session. These sessions run concurrent with the student program.

The Impact Awards at Bridgewater State University is an annual event the campus community has been celebrating for many years to celebrate the impact of many members of the BSU Community.This year, the event was held on Monday, April 22nd. Amongst the sparkles, balloons, photos, and music of the evening, a total of 13 scholarships and awards were presented. There were also several Student Government Association awards and scholarships.

Here are the crucial dates you need to remember:
• Voter Registration Deadline: Aug. 24, 2024
• Vote by Mail Application Deadline: Aug. 26
• Early Voting: August 24 - August 30

Discussion Questions Corner

Each BSU Family Hub newsletter will feature discussion questions we would suggest talking with your student about. They will be relevant to what is going on during that time of the semester.

    • Some students consider taking summer courses, doing internships, working, or have other plans. It's great to keep the lines of communication open!
  • What classes are you taking next semester?

Commencement Updates

Do you have a student who is graduating this weekend? Be sure to keep an eye on BSU’s Commencement Website for the most up-to-date information on the event, frequently asked questions, and any important steps or deadlines your student may need to be aware of. 

Please keep in mind that Gillette's clear bag policy will be in effect and there is no tailgating allowed before or after each ceremony.

Resource Spotlight
Summer @ BSU

While it may be quieter here at BSU in the summer, many students use this time to get caught up or ahead on their coursework by participating in one or more summer courses. 

We recommend that students discuss taking summer courses with their assigned academic advisor before registering - and there are additional costs to factor into the decision. That being said, click here to view more information on summer at BSU!
