The BSU Commonwealth Honors Program is a welcoming and inclusive community of over 1,000 students committed to academic success, service, leadership, and achieving their personal goals. Joining Honors allows your student to:

Become part of a diverse community of engaged peers
Experience greater student-faculty interaction in honors courses, which are capped at 15 students
Register for classes early
Create lifelong friendships, especially by joining Honors Living-Learning Communities
Develop close relationships with dedicated honors professors and receive mentorship in their field of study
Participate in leadership and community engagement opportunities
Stand out for internships, jobs, and scholarships as well as graduate and professional school

How Does my Student Join Honors?

If your student’s high school GPA is a 3.4 or higher (or they have an SAT score of 1170 or ACT score of 24 or higher), they are invited to join the Commonwealth Honors Program! They will receive an invitation to join our Honors community with their acceptance to BSU. We ask that students let us know they would like to join the BSU Commonwealth Honors Program by May 31, 2024.

Students who are interested in the Honors Program at BSU but haven’t been accepted yet are encouraged to apply by clicking the “Apply for the Honors Program” button on our website. The application asks for students to share a piece of academic work they are proud of, such as their Common App es
say, another piece of writing, video, slideshow, or work of art. The Honors application is due May 31, 2024.

What Happens After my Student is Accepted?
Students accepted into the Commonwealth Honors Program get to enroll in an Honors First-Year Seminar with other honors students and an honors professor and reap all the benefits offered in the program! If your student has questions or would like to make an appointment to talk by phone or Zoom with faculty or staff in the Honors Program, please have them call or email us.
